When I was trying to overwrite a map service thru’ my existing GIS Server “administer” connection in ArcMap, the connection was not recognized. Then, I tried to dig in and expand the connection in ArcCatalog where I got an error message “ArcGIS Server access to this resource is forbidden, regardless of authorization”.
On digging deeper into what changed in the connection between today and last time I accessed this connection, I realized that I was stuck with a web adapter error two weeks back and that I reinstalled the web adapter. At that time, I might have forgot to Enable administrative access to my site thru’ web adaptor. Enabling administrative access thru’ web adapter solved this issue.
Here is the work flow for solving this issue:
Go to ArcGIS Web Adaptor from your server machine in which ArcGIS Server/Web Adaptor are installed. Add your GIS Server to the web adaptor with the option of “Enable administrative access to your site through the Web Adaptor” left checked.
